Vesk Aternox never has one face for long, and why would he ever want to? As a changeling that's fully embraced his gifts, he changes names and faces as easy as others change clothes. He prefers to dress in wealthy noble attire, but he isn't ever against mixing things up to play a character.
Vesk has been a vampire for as long as he can remember, contracting the disease from his younger sister when he was a young adult on the verge of death and not really caring about the passage of time since. He's traveled all around the world, as well as other dimensions, seeking out riches and spreading vampirism to both willing and unwilling contractors. He sees what others see as a disease as a gift of immortality, even if it means his victims lose their souls in the process. He seeks to expand his family as far as possible, secretly desiring an army of like minded individuals that will aid his goals of presenting magic and immortality to the masses.
As Vesk spread more and more vampirism, he began to contract a god complex that could only be satisfied with power. He studied the arcane for centuries, becoming a powerful mage that was deeply fascinated by the concept of pocket dimensions. His breakthrough on them was granted in the form of a gift by an unknown beneficiary that spoke to him through the magical artifact: The Ashes of Eretsu.
Vesk met up with Xaviox and turned him for the price of knowledge about The Wardancer family. It's been how Vesk and his armies have managed to remain undetected for so long on the continent of Par'Adeus. The two of them began a mutually beneficial deal. Vesk collected magical artifacts for Xaviox, and Xaviox spread vampirism across Caldra for nearly a century. Eventually Vesk became just as intrigued in the magical artifacts as Xaviox was, and the two of them began sharing their hordes to outfit the growing army.
Vesk and Xavi met nearly three centuries ago while Xavi was desperately trying to offset his imment demise from a horrible illness. He was willing to do anything to find a cure, even tell one of his family's sworn enemies their deepest secrets. Vesk gained all the information he could have ever hoped for to avoid or slaughter the monsterhunters of House Wardancer, and he gladly slaughter Xavi with a necrotic bite in exchange for the information.
The two of them conitnued their alliance up until Xavi was recently slaughtered, and Vesk had hoped to help Xavi free Krosis from the trap that was placed on their old mansion. Vesk greatly misses his ally. Even if their relationship was only ever purely business, Vesk had the same appreciation for Xavi as he did for all of his so-called "creations."
Vesk spent months working with Krosis to free him from the mansion's basement, and the two ultimately became somewhat close from it. Vesk thought himself close to freeing Krosis, and the arrival of Ashen Cabaret set his plan in motion. He promised Krosis the blood of the Aeon's champion, but Krosis' impatience triggered the plan too soon. Just as he struck the blood to the altar and prepared his escape with Vesk, Ashen Cabaret showed up, and the two of them became separated.
Vesk tricked Dorric into a bet while he was in the kingdom of Valnaris, promising the secret to immortality if Dorric won. Upon losing, Vesk slaughtered the professor where he stood and raised him up as a fellow vampire. Dorric was disgusted at what Vesk had done to him, losing his job, his family, and becoming exiled from his home. He began searching for the cure to vampirism, always keeping Vesk within arms length in hopes that he could prevent the horrible curse from being given to anyone else.
Dorric planned to kill Vesk at Xavi's mansion to protect Juno, but Vesk beat him in their fight and took his form as a disguise to scare Juno out of his room.
While initially only planning to steal from her like the others in the Ashen Cabaret, Vesk began to see Juno as the perfect addition to his army. He loathes Jadeth for getting attacked by Krosis and ruining Juno's mood, citing it as the main reason she didn't take the steps towards immortality with him. He believes she's smart and pratical, and with her past focuses in the arcane, it made her the perfect candidate for his family.
Evalyn took care of Vesk and his sisters when he was young, and he felt it only right to gift her with vampirism before she passed on to the next life. He searches for ways to restore her youth in his off time, but he gifted her the warforged, Zilla, to serve as her companion and assistant.
Thousands of years ago, Nil was the one to grant Vesk immortality. Catching him right as he was slain by a mysterious child wearing pink glasses, Nil bit down on his neck and let him pass. This allowed him to come back as a vampire. Nil only asked for one thing in return - his aid in pleasing her gods.
The two siblings ventured out, sowing the seeds of immortality. Several decades ago, they received a directive from one of their divine: dig. So they did, with Nil putting in far more effort than her brother. Vesk dug and dug until he created space for the city, Asuras, and Nil came to confront him about it. He swayed her for a time, but her loyalty towards her brother was outweighed by the devotion to her diety, so when Ashen Cabaret arrived, she abandoned Vesk, well aware it may be the last time she would see him.Vesk was first introduced as Alexander Thoreau, a calm and mildly flirtatious vampire. Of course, that wasn't the full truth. Vesk was conspiring with Xaviox and Krosis to free the lich and gain more power from their allegiance. After the plan backfired, Vesk slipped away back to the underground city of Asuras.
Vesk's theft of The Aeon's sword, The Hereafter, made his location known to Lucienne who quickly recruited Ashen Cabaret to raid Asuras. They pursued him into his pocket dimension and were able to put a stop to his plans to destroy the sun and liberate vampire-kind from the shadow.
