Exogenesis

Session 10: Shuffle the Deck

After hunting down the Kobolds and gaining an ally of a fey raven named Pepper, the Shadow Prophets pursue Therron into the temple. The druid circle handles theShadar-Kai soldiers, letting them swiftly reach where Rithe is waiting in the inner chamber. Rithe welcomes the “heroes” claiming that he is one as well, simply looking to free the world of evils. With the Deck of Many Things, he believes he can do just that.

He tries to appeal to their good nature, believing them to want similar things and asking how they could ever come to trust Cayden if she won’t even reveal her true identity to them. He reveals that the mercurial knight is actually the druid, Calliope Aberdeen, and claims that his only intention is to prevent her demon from hurting any more innocent lives. The Shadow Prophets ignore him, having seen his manipulation at work firsthand.

When it becomes clear that the group doesn’t believe him, he focuses on The Accountant and Xaveria. He believes that Shadar-Kai are all divinity when compared to mortals, and that they should be a beacon of moral fortitude. He also doesn’t understand how Xaveria can side with a monstrous creature, since Shadowtouched took Queen Abzu’s family away from her. He admits that Abzu isn’t looking to kill the Shadowtouched; rather, he aims to repurpose them. The Accountant becomes angered and leads the attack against Rithe.

At the end of the battle, Rithe and his guards are slain. The spirit guardian of the Deck of Many Things reveals herself as a giant frog named Anura, who is giddy to have kind visitors for the first time in over a thousand years. Anura offers the group the ability to pull some cards, so they do with varying results. The greatest impact of these is that The Accountant is turned into a cat.

When leaving the Feywild, Pepper gleams with a bluish glow and Xaveria is pulled out of the portal stream. When they arrive back on the material plane, Xaveria is missing and it becomes obvious something is very wrong. Meanwhile, a stranger stalks them from beyond the clearing.
