Description

At first glance, Lucienne Ladybird looks just as human as any other. She has light blonde hair shaved on one side and pale skin dotted with only a few small scars on her face. She hides her unnatural purple eyes behind her big rose-colored glasses, and the only other thing anyone would notice out of the ordinary is the pinkish hue to her shadow. She wears a full set of armor underneath her pink jacket, somewhat trying to maintain the appearance of a professional soldier rather than an average hitman. When she's in combat, Lucienne sprouts a pale set of wings to aid in her movement.

Biography

Lucienne was born to Dahlia Ladybird, a younger woman with no idea that she had given birth to the daughter of Kronos. When Lucienne was a child, she accidentally channeled a burst of divine magic while she was playing in the woods. This magic transported her hundreds of years into the future, taking her from summer to the dead of winter. She quickly returned to her mother's home in the woods outside of Lakewood, but the house was long gone and replaced with an inn.

Lucienne ran inside, desperate to find her mother and terrfied to be on her own. She learned the year from a passing conversation, and fear overtook her. She sprinted towards town and made her way to the graveyard behind the temple. She fell on her knees when she found Dahlia's grave, and in her sorrow, two white wings erupted from her back. An old mage found her there, alone and sobbing in the cold. He asked her what was wrong, assuming she was an angel. He was fascinated by her jump forward in time, stating that the only creature who could reliably do it was the god lost to time. Seeing her as being very powerful, he promised her a way to revive her mother if she could help him collect a few items. She desperately agreed.

Years passed before Lucienne was able to retrieve all the items, but she remained devoted to bringing her mother back from the dead. The mage thanked her before he lashed out in betrayal, intending to use the spell on his own daughter rather than Lucienne's mother. Lucienne laid bleeding out in the snow, furious at the mage that she then realized was a necromancer. She yelled out for the help of her divine father, but it was like the man said, Kronos was gone. However she received an answer from a different god - The Aeon.

A black blade appeared in her hand, and a voice told her to use it to slaughter the necromancer that hurt her. She responded, "with pleasure," and took the life of her first target. A man dressed in black appeared in front of her to collect the necromancer's soul, and Lucienne ran forward and hugged him. He was taken back by the contact and surprised that she could withstand touching him without dying. He offered to bring her home with him, and she begged if he could help her see her mother one final time. He apologized to her, but promised that he could help her find a new family.

Her celestial heritage meant she fit right at home in the realm of the gods. Growing up sheltered from the mortal world and all its affairs, she learned about her home continent of Par’Adeus only through history books. Once she was better versed in combat, The Aeon let her act as his pseudo-champion, growing weary waiting for Jadeth to grow up and weaponize the magic he granted her. Lucienne swore to become a better champion to him anyway, silently loathing Jadeth's waste of his magic and viewing her as a spoiled younger sibling.

While Lucienne is very well-versed on etiquette around the divine, she’s rarely spent much time around mortals. She is reclusive and quiet, often times carrying out full conversations with the echoes she calls upon rather than seeking out the company of others. She is calm under pressure, and when combining that with her gifts from The Aeon, it makes her a fierce presence on any battlefield. What she lacks in knowledge, she makes up for in level-headedness, being remarkably adaptive when the situation calls for it.

Relationships

The Aeon

Lucienne takes her duty as The Aeon's champion very seriously. She handles his assignments for her swiftly, feeling fully capable in her powers and the gifts she was given. She longs to feel the love of a parental figure, and while The Aeon is far from the most caring god, he tries to aid Lucienne whenever he finds the time. He often recognizes that he isn't what she needs, and turned her caretaking over to the other gods for a time. This allowed her to meet up with Ukko when the two of them were young.

Ukko

Lucienne has always been envious over Ukko's control over his powers and kind-hearted nature. She grew up alongside him for a time, and missed him dearly when their paths brought them in different directions. She was relieved to learn that his passing was the mistake of Ashen Cabaret.

Liliana

Lucienne and Liliana don't get along particularly well, but that's mostly due to Liliana's wild nature. Lucienne does respect Liliana's art, but she wishes that the wereboar could take things seriously when need be. She would never admit it, but Lucienne loved having her company after having been working alone for so long. Liliana's passing sent Lucienne into a downward spiral, causing her to raze Asuras and abandon Yore.

Yore

Yore and Lucienne had a strange start to their friendship. Immediately after meeting Lucienne, Yore gaslit her and then literally lit her on fire. Lucienne kept a level head, and was about to explain the strange temporal anomalies and suspicious behavior. After that, Lucienne was quickly enamored by Yore's innocent fascination with her powers and relics. Determining that he was genuinely interested instead of looking to take advantage of her, she began developing feelings for the dwarf. However, those feelings weren't enough to keep her from running away from him after slaying Vesk.

Notable Appearances

Lucienne first appeared during Ashen Cabaret's encounter with Vesk at the vampiric mansion. She was secretly working to kill the vampires there for The Aeon, and was framed by Vesk for the disappearance of Jadeth. The truth came out that she was innocent, and she became a traveling companion to Yore and Liliana at the conclusion of the events.

Lucienne appeared again after Jadeth cried out to The Aeon for help in killing the lich: Krosis. Her and Yore let the group know that they had located Vesk, and the group all readied themselves to kill him once and for all. After finding Liliana deceased, Lucienne abandoned Yore when he went to finish off Vesk.

Lucienne reappeared in the Exogenesis campaign, using her ability to jump through time to return the Shadow Prophets to the present. She asked that in return they use their wish to revive her friend, Liliana, and threatening to make them keep the promise by force.
