Argos' Mire

Session 22: Kalamari Returns

The group travels once again through the field that they met up with Annie and continues north until they find a lake with a large mountain in the center of it. They are able to spot a complex set of caves under the surface of the water, so they prepare themselves for ways to breathe underwater and dive down. The labyrinthian tunnels are difficult to get through, but Shade takes the lead, spotting a strange flower with air bubbles forming on its “petals.” Shade is ambushed by a school of furious fish, but Matanza rushes to his aid.

After the threat is defeated, Juno becomes charmed and begins wandering down another hallway. Jadeth pursues her, but to her dismay Juno vanishes. Matanza bumps into more fish and begins peeping frantically for help, so everyone but Jadeth goes to their aid. The tiefling digs at the ground, uncovering a teleportation rune that she takes to a new location. While the others kill off all the fish, Jadeth chases the blood trail Juno left in the water, finding her engaged in combat with the sahuagin blademaster who she attempted to steal from. With an ally present, the tide of battle quickly turns in Juno’s favor, and she forces the blademaster to yield.

Shade swims through another teleportation rune, and hunts down the other fish before they have a chance to harm anyone. Slender, Matanza, Henry and Olaf reunite with the girls, and listen to Shade’s sad meowing to locate the tabaxi. Regrouped and reinvigorated, the group descends into the lair of the morkoth. In the morkoth’s lair, Slender takes the lead but fails to convince Thalazor why they needed Asmodeus’ horn.

Instead, the morkoth releases Teneborous, and the group engages in a battle that ends with him pinning Jadeth against the wall of the cavern by her neck. He accuses her family of killing his brother, but Jadeth defiantly relays that her uncle is no ally of hers. She lets Teneborous look into her mind to confirm the statement, and he makes a deal with Ashen Cabaret, trying to bargain for her soul. She hesitates, so Shade bravely intejects, offering his own soul’s servitude for 20,000 years after his passing. Jadeth asks to work alongside the devil to take revenge on Alastor, and Teneborous takes the deal. He wants the Dreadwyrm slain as much as Ashen Cabaret does. However, he is alerted to Argos’ involvement in the matter, furiously repeating the name Gus to himself.

Teneborous leaves, and the group resumes their negotiations with the morkoth. Shade and Slender fail to steal gold and a lute from him, respectively, so finally the morkoth sighs and sends the group back to the ocean beside their boat. Jadeth spots a stone she assumes is dangerous, so she grabs it to ensure none of the others are harmed by it. The stone doesn’t hurt her, but instead informs her that “It” is coming closer. As they sail to Port Darwin, the message is repeated over and over to her, nearly driving her made from sleep exhaustion. Slender identifies it as letting its previous owner know her location, but he isn’t able to figure out who the previous owner is. Jadeth tries to throw it into the sea, but it immediately returns to her.

When the group arrives at Port Darwin, a warforged guard tells Jadeth to go to the temple since she looks unwell, which she refuses. She then spots her old band of mercenaries guarding some noble houses, but before they are able to make it much further into the Port, they hear a bloodcurdling scream.
