Argos' Mire

Session 23: Wrath of Heaven

The group of great heroes disregards the scream they heard in order to go panic search for a cave to slay the empyrean in. They discover one that seems a bit suspicious as they make their way through the fog seeping through from the border ethereal.

As they enter the cave, they find a slumbering ghost dragon stuck in between planes. It puts up a hell of a fight, killing both Slender and Henry, but Matanza revives them without issue. Shade puts the ghostly mist in a sack, and lets Jadeth check it out, although it nearly kills her. Furious, she demands the bag from him, and the two of them yell back and forth for a while.

Finally, sick of that, Juno snatches the bag from Shade, but he grabs it back. Olaf tackles him to the ground, believing to be returning the bag to Juno. Juno thanks him, then throws the bag to Jadeth, but the tiefling fumbles it. Shade agrees to grant her a vial of mist from the back, and she accepts.

Everyone takes a rest in the cave… since Jadeth forgot to let the aboleth out in the ocean, but her strange stone warns her that “It” is near. She heads to the entrance, wary of whatever horrible evil is coming her way. The stone tells her “It” has arrived, and she prepares for the worst. However, the thing ends up being a giant frog. Jadeth cries from excitement, and Shade comes over and plops the frog in his poisonous bag of holding. This paralyzes it, but Matanza heals it then quickly brings it away from Shade. Jadeth names it Mulholland the Godslayer and snuggles it like it’s a puppy.

While everyone else sleeps through the night, Henry and Shade scheme about how to resurrect and control the ghost dragon by feeding the sigil orphan souls, Juno overhears it and very directly asks them what the fuck they’re doing. They split, but promise to talk more later.

Days go by with everyone working on their own stuff. Olaf is able to master his wereboar form, becoming even more of a menace of a fighter with his new skills. As Olaf heads out of the house in the morning, he is greeted by a club swing to the face. Everyone in the house hears commotion and comes running. Henry traps the empyrean in an uncomfortable box while Shade, Matanza, and Juno rush to Olaf’s aid. Slender begins playing music frantically to give buffs and healing to his allies.

The empyrean knocks Olaf out, but Juno swipes Talon from the titan’s hands and returns it to her friend. Matanza leaps from atop the cliff and smashes the Empyrean in his face, making him stagger backwards. Jadeth makes her mask ignite and taunts the empyrean for not using any magic. The titan admits that magic is more of his brothers’ specialties, but he begins to unleash an earthquake. Jadeth smugly counters it, and the empyrean commits her to memory. He tees up to smash her, and deals a devastating blow that she barely survives. Her own magic unleashes on the blow, and the blast of ice pierces the empyrean’s chest. Ashen Cabaret handles his corpse with the utmost… respect, and decides that they will head back into town.
